Having previously worked in advertising and sales, Lynn Fletcher was looking for a new business opportunity that could fit around the needs of her young son. She also wanted to take on a business that offered the right return on her initial start-up costs and found the Dream Doors model fitted the bill.
"I initially saw Dream Doors on the internet and that then prompted me to go to a trade show. After talking to the team there, I decided to go ahead with it.
The reason that I went for Dream Doors was that the investment required was not as significant as some others that offered high earnings. It seemed more plausible and more of an acceptable figure. Basically, I wanted to be my own boss. My son was younger then and I wanted the flexibility to make my own choices.
I come from a sales background and, at first, I was quite concerned that I didn’t know anything about kitchens, so I questioned my suitability quite a lot. But everyone at Dream Doors pointed out to me that the job of selling is something I’ve done all my life, I just need to change what I’m selling.
Dream Doors is in a strong position now. I would say that the marketing is a lot more targeted than some other businesses out there and the support is very strong. Having the visibility that comes with being part of such an established business, plus the support network, means that the head office is there to make sure you can’t fail.
“There’s a lot of protection there. Lots of franchise businesses out there get no real help and they start up and then go under. Dream Doors tries to catch that and identify it early to make sure it doesn’t happen. It’s a demanding job – you can’t say that it’s not – but it’s a rewarding one as well."
